In a Jest channel, your chat messages with friends play like a video. It is a different way to write and read messages so it’s helpful to look over someone’s shoulder and see them using it. Below are some short how-to videos to get you started.
Jest channels
In Jest, you communicate via channels where your messages play as a video stream. New messages are added at the end of the video stream. You don’t need to ‘send’ your message because members will be automatically notified when there are new messages in the channel.
New channel
Tap the ‘+’ button to create a new channel. Practice all you want because you’re the only one in the channel until you add other members to the channel.
Write and playback
Type your words one-at-a-time and use standard gestures to move, scale and rotate a word's form. Play back the message using the play controller. Drag the controller to scrub the message, or swipe and let go to play.
Style text
Tap the ‘style’ tab to change the default font, style, color or layout. Tap the tab again to close it.
Express with gestures
To record an animation, tap the ‘hand’ tab to expose the effects panel. Animate’ and ‘Cartoon’ are your base effects, gesture over the word to animate its form. Playback the recorded animation by swiping the play controller.
Use effects
Effects can be combined and applied with a gesture. For example, if you flick a word when ‘animate’ and ‘fire’ effects are selected, the word will emit fire as it moves.
Undo/Redo gestures
Tap the 'Undo' button after a gesture to undo it. Or, replace an existing animation by overlaying a new gesture over the animation as it plays.
Add members
When you’re ready to share your channel, tap the ‘share’ button, add members and tap 'Share' to send out invites. Once a channel is shared, it is a group channel where all members can view and add content.
Chatting together
If you and a friend are in a channel together at the same time, you’ll see each other’s message as they are being written and expressed. Your chat is read like a video and can be played back.
